There was a time when Kangna Ranaut had an unstable career in the industry. Rascals tastes, Knockout, Miley Miley Na Hum, Tezz and Game were not being useful, though Tanu Weds Manu brought her back in the game. A year and a half ago, Kangna struck again with Krrish 3 and then an important milestone was reached in the form of the queen. Almost overnight, she was hailed as someone who was always a 'material superstar' and soon, even a failure Revolver Rani brought at least Kangna some praise. While no one spoke about Ungli since disappeared without a trace, the world is in fact talking about Tanu Weds Manu Krishika Lulla Returns where returns with his co-star in Madhavan Director Aanand L. Rai show run.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns seems like a real movie fun for you.
I think what really works for the film is done in a real space. Not one of those gimmicky dual roles where both characters look and you can not tell who is who. When you see the film you would realize how important it is this dual role is the script.
So who is Dattu after all?
Well, for starters it is much younger than Tanu. She is an athlete, she comes from a lower middle class family, she has a face that is certainly very different from Tanu (laughs). We also work on hair. If you see, there is a stylish cut; it's just a simple cut guy. Woh shehhron Chote ki mein hota hai naa ko ladkiyon boy cut kara dete hain, waisa hai. He was game for it.
What about Tanu yet?
She's going through their own challenges. Within four years has made her a different woman. Yes, somewhere that still has that element in its free spirit intact. However, she gets frustrated when she is on the brink of a failed marriage. There is a certain level of desperation; certain melancholy that is bothering her. Moreover Datto is vibrant. She has hopes and dreams of a better future, she has a plan. She is the woman made himself too studying in Ramjas College of Delhi University on an athletic fee. Datto is best that fought against Tanu and I'm not partial to anyone.
How does that work?
Both women are equally important. Tanu Datto as I used to hate and vice versa (laughs). As an audience he would feel that women deserve fair chance. In fact, they are the extension of my personality and I added my own perception and representation. That said, at first I was a little skeptical that daant lambe hai, hai ek tareeke ka accent, make nahi hai. Jabki Tanu is glamor, it is all one liners and dialogues bahaut ki jo hai hi filmi. Couple a bajegi-Seeti Taali (smiles). I hoped Datto also receives some good recognition. Abhi ulta ho gaya, now I'm a little concerned that Datto is getting all the attention.
Meanwhile there Madhavan you're bound to get their fair share of attention too. How does your chemistry with him this time?
Madhavan's like a friend, I've known him for so long. This type of equation that gives the freedom of being relaxed and at ease. We worked on a successful film together, and therefore our link is priceless. Look, when a movie works, then it tends to share more happy memories. There are dinners and parties succeed success because people keep meeting again and again. I share certain equation with Maddy for years. When he was in the joint, it was like being with family.
Director Aanand could well be another family, right?
Aanand has proven itself in a big way itself, Tanu Weds Manu whether or Raanjhanaa. He is amazing. With it, there is always a lot of teamwork involved. No one comes to any rigid perceptions. Everyone works collectively; We have done many workshops and rehearsals with cameras too, as we were going to use for the dual role. It was tough because during the shoot, I was reacting to a post for dual paper. Aanand is one of the most fantastic and clear people around. He wants to bring a man and a woman on the screen again and again and in different assemblies. He knows he is here to make love stories.
